Postcard from the revolution
I took time to myself, but the obliteration of capitalism and racism is still on.
Dear Reader
It’s been awhile since I’ve written. I had to lay low for a little bit. Late last year I read and reviewed a book on rape and sexual abuse, and it tore open some childhood scars that needed attention. So I attended to them. I feel better now.
I’ve also been building another newsletter that covers anticapitalist, abolitionist activities in Queens. For now, it’s called Queens Revolution, but the name may upgrade to something more clever. I’m already writing a story about an all-industries union hall in the borough, as well as following leads on the expanding surveillance state and the police department’s ongoing harassment of people of color.
I welcome you to subscribe and offer feedback, and to suggest story ideas as well.
As for the leaderless newsroom that I wrote about previously, I still hope it comes to fruition. Admittedly, building a newsroom with a community is a very slow process—it may never happen!—but that’s alright. The community has to want to do it, not feel like they have to do it. In the meantime, I’m learning a lot about organizing, about the history of racism in America (ie, the history of America) and about how things come together.
So that’s me. That’s what I’ve been up to.
How are you? How was your summer? Do anything interesting to dismantle anti-Blackness, capitalism or the patriarchy? I hope you’re doing well.
Until I write again, please stay safe.
Sincerely,
Jennifer
